What is Surgam?

Surgam is an anti-inflammatory medicine that relieves fever and pain. Its active ingredient is tiaprofenic acid. Surgam belongs to a family of medicines called Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAID). It is primarily prescribed to treat rheumatoid arthritis and rheumatic disorders such as arthrosis and to reduce pain and swelling after an operation. Surgam prevents the transmission of pain signals to the brain, which reduces the pain. It also relieves the symptoms of inflammation.

How to use Surgam

The usual dose for adults is 200 mg three times a day, or 300 mg twice a day. Take the tablets during or after meals, for example in the morning or evening. Surgam begins to take effect after 30 to 60 minutes and provides approximately four hours of relief.

If your kidneys do not function well, be sure to tell your doctor. This is important in case the dosage needs to be adjusted.

Side effects

Surgam may cause temporary side effects. The most common ones are headache, drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, nausea and diarrhea. For a complete list of side effects, see the package leaflet.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Consult your doctor on the use of Surgam if you are pregnant. Do not use Surgam in the last three months of pregnancy. Since tiaprofenic acid is excreted in breast milk, Surgam should not be taken while breastfeeding.
